Challenge:
One of our Pharma customers has a
huge requirement of Acetonitrile HPLC and they were buying more than 10000
bottles of 2.5 lit per month. They had a problem of handling such huge quantity
supplied in bottles and at the same time disposing off the empty bottles with
all precautions as per the EHS norms.
They wanted us to develop a bigger
pack size to reduce their issues. However, Acetonitrile HPLC was not compatible
with MS/ GI / HDPE and so could be given only in glass bottles where the maximum
pack size available is 4 lit.
We understood their problem and
started working on the same. We found out that Acetonitrile HPLC is compatible
with SS 316 and hence, can be offered in bigger pack drums made of SS 316. However,
SS 316 drums are comparatively very costly and hence not viable as one-time
supply.
So, we came out with the option to
supply the drums on returnable basis. We initially developed 25 lit SS drums
and offered to the customers for their evaluation. They found the material to
be suitable for their use and then we went ahead to make 50 lit and 200 lit SS
drums also. As on date we have more than 500 such drums which are in
circulation with our Pharma Customers.
The customers are happy as they have
to handle fewer containers and do not have to worry about breakages as they
faced in glass bottles and the most important is that there is no waste / scrap
generated during the whole process, as the drums are on returnable basis.
